Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Play

The Mead Community Primary School prides itself on the extensive use of its grounds for learning, at playtime and lunchtime.  Play is at the heart of our school, children have one chance at childhood and we believe that positive experience of purposeful play and learning in the outdoors is key to a happy healthy childhood.

Environment

We use our fantastic outdoor environment to enhance and support learning opportunities at every level.  Our grounds have been used to engage children in survival training for the arctic, magical journeys to the land of the Wild Things, team building activities creating large scale art, all planned as part of our diverse innovative and creative curriculum

Playground Facilities

The high quality play opportunities provided for break and lunchtimes is fundamental to the outstanding behaviour of our children.  The children have opportunities to play with reusable materials, alongside activities provided by our sports coach and specialist PE teaching assistant, skipping, huff and puff games, art and hockey. The children have constant access to the school field being encouraged to wear wellington boots or field shoes. We have trained peer mediators to support any friendship issues that may arise.

We were particularly impressed by the independence that your children showed, by the creativity of your staff, by the organisation of the lunch break and the integration of play into this time. You have established a wonderful school!
