The Leading SENCO Programme is delivered jointly be The Mead Teaching School and the Avon Teaching School Alliance, in close collaboration with the Local Authority. The Local Authority refers schools to the programme who would benefit from the support of a Leading SENCO; the Teaching Schools then match the school to an appropriate Leading SENCO, and facilitate the support required.
Each Leading SENCO deployment consists of four visits to the supported school (either face to face, or virtual), with Notes of Visit produced after each visit to ensure clarity of focus and agreement on next steps.
Leading SENCOs are outstanding SENCOs who have a demonstrated track record in, and the capacity for, providing support to SENCOs in other schools. The Leading SENCO role is fundamental in moving forward SEND priorities and activities Wiltshire schools, and invaluable to being able to offer a range of expertise for school to school support.
In return, we provide free CPD opportunities each year (previous topics have included Evaluative Writing and Coaching Skills), and access at a favourable rate for other training, such as our annual SEND Conference.
In order to increase the capacity of the programme, we are now seeking to recruit more Leading SENCOs from across Wiltshire. Interviews will be held remotely on Wednesday 3rd February 2021.
