All teachers from across The Mead Academy Trust gathered today (Monday 6th January 2020) for a day focused on writing and the curriculum.
The day began with a keynote speech from Mike Haines, a friend of the Trust and former HMI. Mike spoke to the room about the importance of writing, and encouraging children to write from their own experiences.
Teachers commented that:
“I really enjoyed listening to the different approaches and sequences in teaching and learning writing – many good ideas to explore / secure”
“Mike’s talk about writing was great and thought provoking”
“Food for thought and to reflect on re: children’s ideas e.g. real life experiences, role play writing opportunities, observations (describing pictures etc)”
“It was great to be reminded of strategies for writing – give children more freedom to write from own experiences”
We’re looking forward to a continued focus on writing this year, and seeing this professional learning embedded in classrooms across the Trust.
